Science Teacher Role in a High-Performing Secondary School

A high-performing and inclusive Secondary School in Portsmouth is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Science Teacher to join its successful Science department from September. About the Role

The successful candidate will teach Science across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that build curiosity, confidence, and strong scientific understanding.

At KS3 and KS4, you will deliver Biology, Chemistry, and Physics as part of a broad and balanced science curriculum. At KS5, you will have the opportunity to teach your specialist discipline, supporting students in developing advanced scientific knowledge, practical skills, and exam technique.

You will play a key role in supporting students to achieve excellent outcomes in GCSE and A-Level Science, while contributing to practical investigations, curriculum development, and wider STEM enrichment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Science across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging and well-structured lessons across all sciences

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations

  • Plan and deliver practical experiments safely and effectively

  • Assess student progress and provide high-quality feedback

  • Support intervention strategies to raise attainment

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Promote STEM enrichment, clubs, and wider school activities

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching Science at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics

  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level Science

  • Ability to contribute to STEM enrichment activities

  • Strong track record of improving student outcomes

  • Experience working in a high-performing or structured school environment
