We are currently seeking a proactive, organised and highly skilled Facilities Manager to oversee the site, buildings and grounds of a thriving secondary school in Portsmouth. This full-time, permanent role begins January 2026 (or earlier) and is ideal for someone with strong leadership ability, excellent practical skills and a thorough understanding of health & safety compliance.
The successful candidate will take a strategic lead on maintaining a safe, efficient and welcoming learning environment for staff, students and visitors.

Responsibilities:
- Leading the day-to-day running of the school site
- Managing caretakers, cleaning teams and external contractors
- Overseeing building maintenance, repairs and improvement projects
- Ensuring full compliance with health & safety, including statutory checks
- Managing security systems, alarms, access controls and site safety procedures
- Monitoring heating, lighting, ventilation and energy systems
- Conducting risk assessments and maintaining accurate H&S records
- Supporting school events, lettings and termly operational planning
Experience & Qualifications:
- Previous experience in facilities, estates or site management (school experience desirable)
- Strong understanding of health & safety, safeguarding and compliance
- Ability to lead a team and manage contractors effectively
- Practical maintenance skills across multiple trades
- Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving abilities
