About the School

Are you a reliable, hands-on professional looking for a stable evening role in a stunning setting? We are seeking a dedicated and trustworthy Evening Caretaker to join the vital site team of our well-regarded secondary school in Dorset.

Known for its strong sense of community and supportive leadership, our inclusive school places great importance on maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. This role is essential for managing the smooth transition from the busy school day into evening community use, and ensuring the entire campus is locked, secure, and ready for the morning.

The Role

As our Evening Caretaker, you will step into a crucial "Key Holder" position with significant responsibility for the site during and after hours. You will work closely with the wider site team and senior leadership to keep operations running seamlessly.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Evening Lock-up & Security: Conducting the final security sweep of the site—ensuring all windows, doors, and gates are locked, alarms are set, and access control is monitored.

  • Lettings Support: Acting as the main point of contact for external community groups hiring our facilities (sports halls, pitches, and classrooms) during evenings and Saturday mornings.

  • Reactive Maintenance: Carrying out repairs and DIY tasks that are difficult to complete while students are in classrooms, including painting, basic plumbing, carpentry, and furniture assembly.

  • Site Safety & Upkeep: Ensuring health and safety standards are met, hazards are cleared, and the premises are immaculate for the next morning.

  • Event Management: Assisting with setting up rooms and spaces for school events, parents' evenings, and community activities.

  • Contractor Liaison: Welcoming and liaising with external contractors when evening or weekend works are required.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Trustworthy & Reliable: As a primary key-holder, absolute punctuality and a high sense of responsibility are non-negotiable.

  • Practical & Hand-on: Competent in general maintenance and repairs, with a solid grasp of basic DIY, plumbing, or building upkeep.

  • Proactive & Independent: Able to work autonomously and solve problems on your own initiative while acting as a valued team player.

  • Approachable & Communicative: Possessing good interpersonal skills to professionally manage external hirer groups and staff.

Previous experience as a school caretaker, site assistant, or commercial maintenance technician is preferred, though we welcome enthusiastic candidates with the right practical skill set and a passion for supporting education.

What We Offer

  • A positive, welcoming working culture within a supportive secondary school community in Dorset.

  • A stable, long-term-to-permanent evening position with convenient working hours.

  • Ongoing support, professional development opportunities, and good on-site facilities.

  • Easily accessible location with strong local transport links.

  • Secure enrolment in the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Safeguarding

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to appropriate safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
