THE SCHOOL

An 11–16 secondary school located in Oxford, Oxfordshire. The school operates with a centralized behaviour system managed by the senior leadership team to maintain a quiet, structured, and respectful environment across the campus. The estates and operations department is a supportive, cohesive team that utilizes digital facilities logging tools to keep workloads manageable. Clear operational procedures ensure routine maintenance, site security, and compliance duties are scheduled fairly and completed efficiently.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS

  • Site Management & Operations: Lead daily site security, opening/closing routines, and the physical maintenance of all school buildings, grounds, and facilities.
  • Team & Contractor Supervision: Line-manage the site staff and manage relationships with external contractors, ensuring repairs, service contracts, and refurbishments are completed to high standards.
  • Compliance & Health & Safety: Oversee statutory health and safety compliance, including fire safety, legionella checks, risk assessments, and asbestos management, maintaining complete inspection records.
  • Capital Projects & Lettings: Support senior leadership with facilities planning, minor estate improvement projects, and the logistics for evening and weekend community lettings.
  • Emergency Response: Act as the primary contact for urgent site issues, emergency call-outs, bad weather procedures, and essential repairs.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualifications: A recognized health and safety or facilities management qualification (such as IOSH or NEBOSH) is desirable, alongside a valid UK driving license.
  • Experience: Proven experience in site management, facilities oversight, or senior caretaking, preferably within an educational or public sector setting.
  • Skills: Strong leadership abilities, practical problem-solving skills, clear communication with school leaders and external vendors, and sound knowledge of health and safety legislation.

REGIONAL CONTEXT

Local Area & Community: Based in the historic city of Oxford, the school serves a diverse and ambitious local population. The area combines world-renowned academic heritage, rich cultural landmarks, excellent green spaces, and a highly supportive community of local families.

Transport & Commuting: The school benefits from strong regional transport links, with easy access via the A40, A34, and M40 corridors.
