About the School
A well-established secondary school in Oxford is seeking an experienced Science Technician to join its science department. The department delivers a broad practical curriculum and requires someone who can confidently prepare laboratories, equipment and resources ahead of lessons.
This is a school-based position, and previous experience working within a secondary school or college science department is essential.
The Role
You will work closely with teaching staff to ensure practical science lessons run safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing practical experiments and demonstrations.
- Setting up laboratories before lessons.
- Preparing chemicals, apparatus and other resources.
- Supporting Biology, Chemistry and Physics practicals.
- Maintaining laboratory equipment.
- Monitoring stock levels and reporting when resources need replacing.Cleaning and storing equipment correctly.
- Following COSHH and school health and safety procedures.
- Maintaining preparation rooms and laboratories.
- Reporting damaged or faulty equipment.
- Assisting with practical examinations.
- Supporting teachers with practical demonstrations.
- Ensuring all materials are safely stored and labelled.
Requirements
Previous school or college Science Technician experience is essential.
Candidates should have a strong understanding of laboratory safety and be comfortable working in a busy secondary science department.
An enhanced DBS will be required.
