The Role
A premier Secondary Academy in Oxford is seeking a professional, mathematically minded, and exceptionally organised Assistant Site Manager to join their active estate management team. This technical and operational role is ideal for an experienced maintenance supervisor, assistant caretaker, or skilled trade specialist looking to coordinate daily safety compliance, logistics data registers, and physical campus upkeep within a highly modernised educational environment.
The successful candidate will share operational responsibility for the daily safety parameters, locking routines, and building efficiency of a high-capacity campus. Key duties include managing the reactive helpdesk ticket system, monitoring the building management system (BMS), tracking raw utility efficiency data, and running automated room comfort calibrations. You will take direct ownership of completing and logging statutory compliance files—including legionella water safety cycles, emergency lighting diagnostics, fire door integrity logs, and mechanical hoist accreditations in total accordance with national legislation (HASAWA frameworks).
You will act as a primary link with the Site Manager, academic staff, and visiting sub-contractors, requiring absolute professionalism, clear communication, and meticulous documentation tracking at all times. Strong organisational skills are a prerequisite, as you will balance immediate site repair requests with structured preventative maintenance schedules and physical contractor logs.
School Information
This is an 11 to 18 well-established Academy in Oxford with an exceptional reputation for technical innovation, academic progress, and support faculty welfare. The school features state-of-the-art classroom blocks, high-spec STEM laboratories, and meticulously maintained traditional spaces integrated with high-spec security systems.
The premises and estates faculty is treated as a highly valued, core foundation of the wider school structure, operating out of an independent, heavily resourced facility workshop. Staff benefit from a highly supportive professional culture, an open and approachable leadership team, and funded pathways for continuous advanced technical training and professional safety certifications (such as IOSH or NEBOSH tracks).
Requirements
- Proven experience in a school caretaking, commercial building maintenance, or an assistant site management role
- Deep operational knowledge of current health and safety parameters, COSHH guidelines, and statutory building compliance data logs
- Strong practical skills across general maintenance operations (such as minor carpentry, basic plumbing, and structural repairs)
- Good IT and data management capabilities, with absolute confidence using digital facilities helpdesk software and spreadsheet profiles
- Ability to work effectively and adaptably across a flexible team framework to cover major school event calendars safely
