We are currently seeking a reliable, friendly and proactive Caretaker to join a thriving and community-focused primary school in Oxford. This is a full-time, permanent role beginning January 2026, offering stability, variety and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the daily life of the school.

About the Role
As Caretaker, you will be a key presence on site and play a vital role in the smooth running of the school. Responsibilities include:
- Opening and securing the school site each day, ensuring all areas are safe and ready for use
- Carrying out minor repairs, maintenance and DIY tasks (e.g. basic plumbing, painting, fixing fixtures and fittings)
- Ensuring playgrounds, pathways, car parks and outdoor learning spaces are safe, clean and free from hazards
- Monitoring heating, lighting, water and alarm systems, and reporting or addressing any issues promptly
- Liaising with, and supporting, cleaning teams and external contractors
- Responding calmly and efficiently to site emergencies or urgent maintenance concerns
- Assisting with deliveries, furniture moves and setting up rooms or halls for assemblies, events and meetings
- Maintaining stocks of cleaning materials, janitorial supplies and basic maintenance equipment
You will be a familiar face to staff, pupils and parents, contributing to the welcoming atmosphere of the school.
Experience and Qualifications
- Previous caretaking, maintenance or premises experience preferred
- Strong practical skills and confidence handling basic repairs and DIY tasks
- Good communication skills and a friendly, approachable manner
- Strong sense of responsibility, reliability and pride in maintaining a safe environment
- Understanding of health & safety in an educational or similar environment
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team
Salary
Support staff scale, dependent on experience.
