CORE PURPOSE
We require an enterprising, industrially minded Physics Teacher to deliver high-quality physics instruction across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 (A-Level). Operating within a specialist, employer-led University Technical College environment, the successful candidate will bridge the gap between abstract physical laws and real-world commercial engineering, embedding mechanics, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics into practical, workplace-simulated projects that prepare pupils thoroughly for terminal examinations, higher apprenticeships, and technical STEM careers.
THE SCHOOL
Our University Technical College operates as a distinctive, sub-regional academy for 14β19 year olds, specialising heavily in technical engineering, digital technologies, and applied sciences. Sponsoring university links and regional industrial partnerships actively shape the curriculum. The campus mirrors a professional manufacturing hub or technical research facility; pupils follow an extended working day, wear smart business attire, and manage independent laboratory and design blocks. Maintaining a compact pupil roll, the college ensures targeted, individualised mentorship from specialist staff.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Applied Scientific Instruction: Plan and execute rigorous physics lessons, linking theoretical principles (such as electromagnetism, quantum phenomena, and materials science) directly to modern manufacturing and industrial practices.
Employer-Led Project Integration: Collaborate with corporate engineering partners and university faculties to design live, technical project briefs that require robust mathematical modelling, prototyping, and scientific testing.
Rigorous Examination Preparation: Guide Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 cohorts systematically through the demands of GCSE Separate/Combined Sciences and A-Level Physics specifications, focusing heavily on synoptic data analysis and practical skills assessments.
Advanced Laboratory Management: Oversee cutting-edge, workplace-simulated laboratory spaces with flawless adherence to CLEAPSS health and safety standards, training pupils in industry-standard instrumentation, data-logging software, and calibration.
Work-Readiness Pastoral Mentorship: Act as a specialist professional tutor to a cohort of pupils, guiding them through manufacturing site placements, professional networking strategies, UCAS applications, and competitive higher technical apprenticeship routes.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent (such as QTLS), paired with a strong honours degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Astro-physics, or a closely related quantitative STEM discipline.
Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver outstanding progress outcomes in both academic (GCSE/A-Level) and vocational technical specifications through explicit, inquiry-led physics pedagogy.
Industrial Literacy: Active experience or a deep understanding of contemporary engineering sectors, technical design frameworks, and laboratory safety protocols, with the ability to instruct pupils in advanced digital data collection.
REGIONAL CONTEXT
Pioneering Manufacturing & Green Technology: Based in the vibrant city of Nottingham, the college operates at the heart of the East Midlands' manufacturing and green energy regeneration sectors. The curriculum directly leverages proximity to regional innovation hubs, global aerospace suppliers, and digital technology labs, transforming Nottingham's industrial landscape into a rich living laboratory for mechanical, environmental, and structural physics modules.
Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from exceptional regional transport links, providing straightforward road commuting via the M1 motorway corridor, the A52, and the A453. Public transit runs flawlessly across the city, utilising the comprehensive Nottingham Express Transit (NET) tram network, regional bus routes, and Nottingham railway station, which offers rapid, frequent East Midlands Railway and CrossCountry services directly to Derby, Leicester, Sheffield, and London St Pancras International.
