CORE PURPOSE

We require an inspiring, musically versatile Music Teacher to deliver high-quality classroom music and instrumental instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Operating within a vibrant mainstream secondary school currently rated "Good" by Ofsted, the successful candidate will facilitate an engaging, practical curriculum designed to foster deep musicological understanding, confident performance techniques, and creative composition skills, preparing all pupils thoroughly for terminal GCSE Music and vocational technical awards.

THE SCHOOL

Our academy operates as an inclusive, community-focused secondary provider dedicated to raising academic standards, celebrating the performing arts, and ensuring every child achieves their full potential. The campus boasts a modern, dedicated music block featuring acoustic practice rooms, a digital recording studio equipped with midi keyboards, and a diverse range of orchestral and contemporary instruments. Our behaviour management framework relies on clear expectations, consistent routines, and positive reinforcement, maintaining a calm, highly purposeful environment where pupils feel confident performing, collaborating, and exploring new musical genres.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS

  • Practical & Theoretical Music Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver high-impact music lessons across all attainment pathways, balancing practical performance, creative composition workshops, and analytical listening modules.

  • Music Technology & Composition Integration: Train pupils in the functional use of digital audio workstations (DAWs) and notation software (such as GarageBand, Logic Pro, or Sibelius), enabling them to compose across various styles from classical to contemporary film scoring.

  • GCSE Assessment & Moderation: Guide Key Stage 4 cohorts systematically through the rigorous performance and composition components of the GCSE Music specification, managing internal recording schedules and portfolio tracking with meticulous accuracy.

  • Extracurricular & Instrumental Coordination: Lead and expand the school’s extracurricular music timetable, coordinating vocal ensembles, instrumental groups, and seasonal school concerts, while collaborating with visiting peripatetic instructors.

  • Inclusive Pastoral Support: Fulfil full form tutor responsibilities within an established year group structure, supporting pupil wellbeing, managing daily registration routines, and maintaining proactive, positive communication with families.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in Music, Music Performance, Composition, or a closely related creative discipline. High-level instrumental or vocal proficiency is essential.

  • Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics in terminal public GCSE examinations or vocational music pathways through structured, highly engaging pedagogy.

  • Enthusiastic & Adaptable Ethos: An unwavering commitment to inclusive music education, demonstrating the energy, patience, and musical breadth required to inspire reluctant performers while stretching elite young musicians.

REGIONAL CONTEXT

  • The City of Rebels, Literature, and Creative Arts: Based in the culturally rich city of Nottingham, the school capitalizes on a unique regional identity celebrated for its legendary heritage, vibrant live music scene, and creative innovation. The city's thriving musical infrastructure—including the Royal Concert Hall, the Nottingham Albert Hall, and its close proximity to the world-class Department of Music at the University of Nottingham—provides rich, real-world links for acoustic analysis, choral traditions, and contemporary industry studies, connecting classroom learning directly to regional artistic networks.

  • Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from excellent East Midlands transport infrastructure, offering straightforward road commuting via the M1 motorway, the A52, and the A46 corridors. Public transit networks operate seamlessly across the metropolitan area, utilizing an extensive local bus system and the modern Nottingham Express Transit (NET) tram network, alongside Nottingham railway station, which provides frequent East Midlands Railway and CrossCountry services linking the school directly to Derby, Leicester, Sheffield, and London St Pancras.
