CORE PURPOSE

We require an inspiring, linguistically precise French Teacher to deliver high-quality modern foreign language instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Operating within a vibrant, ambitious secondary academy, the successful candidate will facilitate a structured, communicative curriculum designed to foster deep linguistic fluency, grammatical accuracy, and cultural literacy, preparing all pupils thoroughly for terminal GCSE French public examinations.

THE SCHOOL

Our academy operates as an inclusive, forward-thinking mainstream secondary school dedicated to high academic standards and broad cultural enrichment. The campus features modern, technology-rich classrooms and a professional, supportive staff culture. Behavior frameworks are built on clear boundaries, proactive routines, and mutual respect, ensuring a calm, purposeful learning environment where low-level disruption is minimized and pupils feel confident practicing spontaneous spoken language.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS

  • Communicative Language Instruction: Plan and deliver engaging French lessons across all ability ranges, embedding consistent speaking, listening, reading, and writing practices to build vocabulary retention and grammatical confidence.

  • GCSE Examination Preparation: Guide Key Stage 4 cohorts systematically through the demands of terminal Foundation and Higher tier GCSE French papers, focusing heavily on phonics, decoding strategies, and extended writing metrics.

  • Target Language Delivery: Cultivate an immersive classroom climate by maximizing the use of target language interaction to improve pupil pronunciation, listening stamina, and spontaneous verbal expression.

  • Data-Driven Interventions: Utilize regular formative assessments and mock exam analysis to identify specific learning gaps, deploying targeted scaffolding and vocabulary retrieval cycles to support all learners, including those with SEND.

  • Academic Pastoral Stewardship: Fulfill full form tutor responsibilities within an established year group, delivering pastoral curriculum units, tracking attendance, and maintaining proactive, supportive partnerships with families.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognized equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honors degree in French, Francophone Studies, or a closely related modern languages discipline.

  • Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics in terminal public GCSE examinations across both tiers through structured, explicit foreign language pedagogy.

  • Cultural Literacy: An authentic passion for the Francophone world, with the ability to integrate cultural context, film, and literature into lessons to inspire a genuine, lifelong interest in language learning.

REGIONAL CONTEXT

  • East Midlands Intercultural Hub: Based in the vibrant city of Nottingham, the academy capitalizes on a unique regional identity where deep literary history meets a modern, multicultural urban economy. The city’s strong international business connections and expanding digital tech sectors provide excellent real-world hooks to demonstrate the value of global communication and modern languages to pupils.

  • Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from premium regional transport infrastructure, offering straightforward road commuting via the M1 motorway corridor, the A52, and the A453. Public transit runs flawlessly across the city, utilizing the comprehensive Nottingham Express Transit (NET) tram network, frequent local bus routes, and Nottingham railway station, which provides regular East Midlands Railway and CrossCountry services directly to Derby, Leicester, Sheffield, and Birmingham New Street.
