Design & Technology Teaching Role in an Independent School

A prestigious Independent School in Nottingham is seeking to appoint an innovative and enthusiastic Design & Technology Teacher to join its highly regarded DT department from September. This is a full-time role within a school renowned for its academic excellence, outstanding pastoral care, and commitment to providing a broad and enriching education.

Design & Technology is a thriving subject within the school, with students encouraged to develop creativity, technical expertise, and problem-solving skills through a challenging and inspiring curriculum.

About the Role

You will teach Design & Technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that encourage innovation, independent thinking, and technical excellence.

Students explore a range of disciplines including Product Design, Resistant Materials, Engineering Principles, and Digital Design, developing advanced practical and theoretical understanding through project-based learning.

You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Design & Technology qualifications, supporting high levels of achievement and progression to leading universities and design-related careers.

The successful candidate will contribute to the wider life of the school through enrichment activities, design competitions, exhibitions, and co-curricular opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Design & Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations

  • Support coursework, portfolio development, and design projects

  • Maintain safe and effective workshop environments

  • Assess student work and provide detailed, constructive feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum innovation and departmental development

  • Support extracurricular design, engineering, and STEM activities

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification

  • Experience teaching Design & Technology at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge in Product Design, Engineering, or Resistant Materials

  • Excellent classroom and workshop management skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level Design & Technology

  • Experience working within an independent or high-achieving school environment

  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM technologies and modern manufacturing processes

  • Ability to contribute to enrichment programmes and design competitions
