A friendly primary school in Northamptonshire is recruiting an enthusiastic Year 1 Teacher to join its KS1 phase from January 2026. The successful Year 1 Teacher will plan and deliver a sequenced Year 1 curriculum that secures strong foundations in phonics, early reading, writing and number. This Year 1 Teacher role offers an excellent induction programme and access to tailored CPD in a school that values professional growth.

The appointed Year 1 Teacher will work with experienced teaching assistants and phase leaders to design engaging lessons, run small-group interventions and monitor pupil progress. We welcome applications from adaptable Year 1 Teacher practitioners who thrive on building positive relationships with pupils and parents. The post will commence January 2026, with induction activities in the weeks leading to January 2026 to ensure a smooth start for the new Year 1 Teacher.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver high-quality Year 1 lessons that build conceptual understanding and fluency.
  • Lead phonics sessions and early reading activities, adapting provision to meet individual needs.
  • Use assessment effectively to set targets, run timely interventions and track progress.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to moderate standards and develop cohesive medium-term plans.
  • Maintain clear home–school communication to support pupils’ development.
Person specification
  • Qualified teacher status (QTS) or equivalent and recent classroom experience teaching young children.
  • Strong subject knowledge in early reading, phonics and number, with evidence of raising attainment.
  • Excellent classroom management, organisational skills and a reflective approach to practice.
  • Positive team player with a commitment to the school’s values and to working in Northamptonshire.
  • Available to start in January 2026 and ready to contribute to school life across Northamptonshire.
