A well-established Secondary School in Northampton is looking for an experienced and proactive Premises Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day management, maintenance and security of its school site. This is a practical leadership position for someone who understands that an effective premises operation is essential to the smooth running of a school. You will work closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team, ensuring the buildings, grounds, facilities and equipment are maintained to a consistently high standard and that students and staff have a safe and welcoming environment in which to work.
The successful candidate will take ownership of planned and reactive maintenance across the site. This will include identifying repairs, prioritising jobs, coordinating contractors and ensuring work is completed appropriately. You will maintain records of servicing, inspections and repairs while ensuring the school remains compliant with relevant health and safety requirements. You will also oversee the school's security arrangements, including opening and closing procedures, access control, keys, alarms and contractor access. The role will involve regular site inspections, identifying potential hazards and taking action before issues become significant problems.
There will be considerable variety within the role. You may be involved in preparing rooms for examinations, assemblies, parents' evenings and school productions, supporting deliveries, arranging furniture and equipment and assisting with larger maintenance or improvement projects.

Premises Manager - Responsibilities
- Take day-to-day responsibility for the school premises
- Coordinate planned and reactive maintenance
- Carry out regular inspections of buildings and grounds
- Identify and report defects and potential hazards
- Manage external contractors and site visitors
- Monitor maintenance schedules and servicing requirements
- Maintain accurate premises and compliance records
- Support health and safety procedures
- Monitor fire safety arrangements and emergency procedures
- Oversee security, alarms, keys and access arrangements
- Manage opening and closing of the school site
- Assist with room preparation for school events and examinations
- Coordinate deliveries and contractor access

- Support premises improvement projects
- Assist with budget monitoring and obtaining quotations where required
You will need to be comfortable taking responsibility and making decisions while also knowing when specialist contractors or senior leadership input is required.
Premises Manager - Experience and Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous Premises, Facilities or Site Management experience
- Experience working within a school or similar large-site environment desirable
- Good knowledge of health and safety procedures
- Experience managing contractors
- Strong practical maintenance knowledge
- Excellent organisational skills
