CORE PURPOSE

We require an inspiring, mathematically adept Physics Teacher to deliver outstanding physics instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with the potential to contribute to Key Stage 5. Operating within a collaborative comprehensive secondary school, the successful candidate will facilitate a structured, practical-led curriculum designed to foster deep scientific enquiry, analytical reasoning, and confident mathematical problem-solving skills, preparing all pupils thoroughly for terminal GCSE Combined Science and Separate Physics public examinations.

THE SCHOOL

Our comprehensive secondary school operates as a welcoming, community-focused environment dedicated to achieving excellent academic progress for pupils of all backgrounds and abilities. The campus features dedicated physics laboratories, fully equipped preparation rooms, and an exceptionally supportive science faculty. Our behaviour management framework is built upon clear expectations, consistent routines, and positive reinforcement, maintaining a calm, highly purposeful learning environment that allows pupils to safely engage in practical investigations, data analysis, and independent research.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS

  • Practical-Led Physics Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver high-quality physics lessons across all attainment pathways, embedding consistent practical investigations to demystify complex mechanical systems, electrical circuits, wave phenomena, and mathematical formulae.

  • Closing Attainment Gaps: Identify and target learning barriers, deploying structured scaffolding, concrete visual models, and targeted literacy interventions to accelerate the progress of all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEND).

  • Rigorous Laboratory Leadership: Manage busy school laboratory spaces with flawless adherence to CLEAPSS health and safety standards, teaching safe experimental techniques, error analysis, and the proper handling of scientific and electrical apparatus.

  • GCSE Performance Tracking: Guide Year 11 cohorts systematically through the demands of terminal Foundation and Higher tier GCSE Science and Physics papers, meticulously analysing mock scripts to eliminate mathematical misconceptions and maximise high-grade boundary retention.

  • Community Pastoral Care: Fulfil full form tutor responsibilities within an established year group structure, managing daily registration, delivering pastoral curriculum units, and maintaining proactive, supportive communication with families.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in Physics, Astrophysics, Engineering, or a closely related quantitative scientific discipline.

  • Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics and mathematical confidence in terminal public GCSE examinations across both Combined and Separate Science pathways.

  • Inclusive Mindset: An unwavering commitment to comprehensive education, demonstrating the patience, clarity, and adaptability required to inspire and support pupils of all abilities.

REGIONAL CONTEXT

  • Motorsport Valley & High-Performance Engineering Hub: Based in the growing town of Northampton, the school capitalizes on a unique regional identity positioned at the heart of the UK's "Motorsport Valley" and advanced engineering corridor. This local context provides rich, real-world applications for mechanics, dynamics, and energy modules, connecting classroom physics straight to local high-performance automotive infrastructure, electronics innovation, and global engineering enterprises nearby.

  • Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from excellent East Midlands transport infrastructure, offering straightforward road commuting via the M1 motorway (Junctions 15 and 15a), the A45, and the A43. Public transit links run seamlessly across the town and county, utilizing comprehensive local bus routes and Northampton railway station, which provides regular, rapid London Northwestern Railway services directly to Milton Keynes, Birmingham New Street, and London Euston.
