We are seeking a linguistically gifted and culturally passionate French Teacher to join an Ofsted-rated 'Outstanding' secondary academy. In this role, you will inspire students to communicate with confidence and nuance, helping them navigate the complexities of a globalized world where French remains a primary language of international diplomacy, trade, and culture.
The Department & Linguistic Culture
You will join a high-performing MFL (Modern Foreign Languages) faculty where French is a popular and high-attaining subject at both GCSE and A-Level. The department utilizes an immersion-based pedagogy, prioritizing target-language instruction to build authentic spontaneity and phonetic precision in students. As an 'Outstanding' setting, we provide a digital-rich learning environment, incorporating specialized language software and authentic French media to enhance listening and cultural literacy. We maintain strong international links and organize regular exchange visits and immersion trips to France, ensuring students experience the language in its true cultural context.
Core Responsibilities
- Exemplary Instruction: Delivering high-challenge French lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with opportunities for A-Level teaching for suitably qualified candidates.
- Grammatical Mastery: Systematically teaching the mechanics of the French language—from verb conjugations and tenses to the nuances of gender and syntax—ensuring a solid foundation for fluency.
- Phonetic Development: Guiding students in mastering French pronunciation and intonation, fostering the confidence to engage in complex oral dialogue.
- Data-Driven Progress: Utilizing the academy’s sophisticated assessment tools to identify and address misconceptions, ensuring all students are equipped to excel in their terminal examinations.
- Cultural Advocacy: Integrating the study of Francophone cultures from around the world—including literature, cinema, and music—into the curriculum to broaden students' global perspectives.
The Successful Candidate
We are looking for a subject authority who is passionate about the cognitive and cultural benefits of language learning. Requirements include:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong honours degree in French (or equivalent near-native fluency).
- Proven Track Record: Evidence of delivering exceptional learning outcomes at GCSE, with a deep understanding of AQA or Edexcel assessment objectives.
- Instructional Versatility: The ability to engage learners of all abilities through creative, high-energy lessons that balance the four key skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.
- Reflective Practice: A professional committed to continuous growth, eager to participate in collaborative planning and the development of high-quality resources.
Why Join Us?
The chance to work in an 'Outstanding' environment where student behaviour is exemplary and Modern Foreign Languages are held in high academic regard. Unrivalled professional development pathways, including opportunities for middle leadership and specialized training in advanced MFL pedagogy. The opportunity to work in Northampton—a historic town offering excellent amenities, affordable living, and superb transport links to London, Birmingham, and the scenic East Midlands.
