English Teacher Role in an Academy Trust School

About the Role

The successful candidate will teach English across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that develop students’ reading, writing, analytical, and communication skills.

Students study a diverse curriculum including Shakespeare, modern and classic prose, poetry, drama, creative writing, and language analysis. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and English Language examinations while encouraging critical thinking, confidence, and a genuine enjoyment of English.

You will also contribute to the wider life of the department through reading initiatives, creative writing activities, debating, theatre visits, literacy projects, and enrichment opportunities that encourage students to explore English beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach English across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging, challenging, and well-structured lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and Language examinations

  • Develop students’ literacy, analytical, and communication skills

  • Assess progress and provide high-quality, constructive feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Support literacy initiatives and enrichment activities

  • Encourage confidence, creativity, and a passion for English

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching English at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge in English Literature and Language

  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level English Literature and/or English Language

  • Experience leading literacy or reading programmes

  • Ability to contribute to debating, drama, or creative writing activities

  • A proven track record of delivering strong student outcomes
