We are seeking an articulate, analytical, and inspiring Maths Teacher to deliver high-quality mathematics instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (with opportunities for Key Stage 5 A-Level Mathematics delivery depending on candidate experience). Working within a well-resourced Mathematics department, the successful candidate will foster mathematical fluency, cultivate problem-solving confidence, and prepare students of all attainment levels to excel in GCSE Mathematics and functional numeracy.

This vibrant secondary academy serves over 1,000 pupils aged 11–18 in Middlesbrough. Key Tasks & Daily Operations

  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging, structured mathematics lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (Edexcel/AQA GCSE Mathematics specifications), developing pupils' fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills across algebra, geometry, statistics, and number work.
  • Post-16 Provision (Optional): Contribute to Key Stage 5 A-Level Mathematics or Level 3 Core Maths delivery where applicable, supporting students aiming for STEM and quantitative degree pathways.
  • Diagnostic Assessment & Intervention: Conduct regular formative and summative assessments, analyse pupil performance data, and implement targeted academic interventions to close attainment gaps ahead of terminal examinations.
  • Mathematical Extension & Co-Curricular: Support departmental extension initiatives, including entering pupils into national competitions such as the UKMT Mathematical Challenge and running after-school maths revision hubs.
  • Pastoral Responsibilities: Serve as a dedicated Form Tutor, supporting pupils' personal welfare, academic progress, and character development within the school’s supportive pastoral structure.

Profile Requirements

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS with a degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a closely related quantitative discipline. Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced secondary practitioners are equally encouraged to apply.
  • Experience: Proven experience teaching Mathematics across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 within a UK mainstream secondary school or academy setting.
  • Skills: Strong subject knowledge, excellent classroom management, clear explanations of complex mathematical concepts, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in students across the full ability spectrum.
