The successful candidate will teach Science across KS3 and KS4, with the opportunity to contribute to KS5 depending on experience and departmental requirements. Recent Science vacancies in Mansfield have highlighted the need for teachers with strong subject knowledge across Biology, Chemistry and Physics and confident classroom management skills.

The school provides a supportive environment where teachers are encouraged to develop professionally while contributing positively to the wider life of the school.

About the Role

You will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality Science lessons that develop students' knowledge, practical skills and enthusiasm for the subject. Lessons should encourage curiosity, critical thinking and the ability to apply scientific concepts to real-world situations.

Practical work will form an important part of the curriculum, and you will work alongside colleagues to ensure students have opportunities to develop their investigative and laboratory skills.

You will also contribute to assessment, curriculum planning and examination preparation, helping students make strong academic progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach engaging Science lessons across KS3, KS4 and, where appropriate, KS5.

  • Deliver Biology, Chemistry and Physics content according to your experience.

  • Plan and prepare lessons that cater for different abilities.

  • Incorporate practical investigations and experiments into teaching.

  • Prepare students effectively for GCSE and A-Level examinations where applicable.

  • Assess and monitor student progress regularly.

  • Provide constructive feedback to support academic development.

  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and achievement.

  • Create an inclusive classroom environment where students feel confident participating.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Science department.

  • Contribute to curriculum development and departmental initiatives.

  • Support Science clubs, STEM activities and wider enrichment opportunities.

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress.

  • Follow all school safeguarding and health and safety procedures.

The School Environment

The school offers a structured and supportive setting where academic achievement is balanced with personal development. Science is an important part of the curriculum, with students encouraged to develop their understanding through both theoretical study and practical investigation.

You will join a collaborative team of teachers who are committed to maintaining high standards and supporting students to achieve their potential.

The position would suit someone who enjoys working with young people, has a genuine passion for Science and wants to contribute to a positive school community.

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate should hold QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification and have strong subject knowledge across the Science curriculum.

Applications are welcomed from experienced Science Teachers and ambitious ECTs.

You should have:

  • QTS or equivalent teaching qualification.

  • Strong subject knowledge in Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics.

  • Experience teaching Science at secondary level.

  • Confidence teaching across KS3 and KS4.

  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.

  • The ability to differentiate lessons effectively.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

  • A passion for practical and investigative Science.

  • The ability to build positive relationships with students.

  • A commitment to high standards of teaching and learning.

  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.
