Design & Technology Teacher Role in an Outstanding Secondary School

An Outstanding Secondary School in Manchester is seeking to appoint an ambitious and creative Design & Technology Teacher to join its highly successful Technology department from September. About the Role

The successful candidate will teach Design & Technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering inspiring lessons that develop creativity, technical expertise, and practical problem-solving skills.

Students follow a broad and ambitious curriculum that includes Product Design, Resistant Materials, engineering principles, design processes, sustainable design, and modern manufacturing techniques. You will guide students through every stage of the design cycle, from research and concept development to prototyping, manufacture, testing, and evaluation.

You will also contribute to the wider life of the department through STEM initiatives, design competitions, employer partnerships, and extracurricular projects that enable students to apply their learning beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Design & Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Design & Technology qualifications

  • Develop students' creativity, technical understanding, and manufacturing skills

  • Maintain outstanding health and safety standards within workshops

  • Assess progress and provide high-quality feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Support STEM projects, design competitions, and enrichment activities

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching Design & Technology at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge in Product Design, Resistant Materials, or Engineering

  • Excellent classroom and workshop management skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level Design & Technology

  • Experience using CAD/CAM technologies, laser cutting, or 3D printing

  • Ability to contribute to STEM enrichment and employer engagement activities

  • A proven track record of securing excellent student outcomes
