Can you be the welcoming face and the reassuring voice of a school that sits at the heart of a diverse and aspirational community? We are seeking a poised and proactive School Receptionist to join a dedicated support team in Luton. Known for its global connectivity and its rich heritage as a center of hat-making and automotive industry, Luton is a town on the move. We are looking for an individual who can manage the "front-of-house" with efficiency and empathy, ensuring every visitor, parent, and student feels valued and supported from the moment they step through the doors.
Core Responsibilities
- First Point of Contact: Managing the main school reception, greeting all visitors in a warm and professional manner, and ensuring that safeguarding procedures (sign-in/ID checks) are strictly followed.
- Switchboard Management: Handling a high volume of telephone enquiries, directing calls to the relevant departments, and taking accurate messages for teaching and support staff.
- Student Interaction: Assisting students with day-to-day enquiries, managing late arrivals, and coordinating the collection of students for external appointments.
- Administrative Support: Assisting the wider office team with clerical tasks, including the sorting and distribution of post, data entry on systems like Arbor or SIMS, and the preparation of school mailshots.
- Emergency Coordination: Acting as a key link in the school’s communication chain during fire drills or medical emergencies, ensuring emergency services and staff are directed correctly.
- Visitor Liaison: Coordinating the arrival of guest speakers, contractors, and supply teachers, ensuring they have the necessary information and access to provide a smooth service to the school.
Why This School?
- Luton’s Diverse Community: Work in a school that reflects the rich multicultural fabric of the town, providing a rewarding environment where your communication skills will make a real impact.
- A Collaborative Hub: Join a front-office team that operates with a "one-team" mentality, where support and humor are used to navigate the busy peak times of the school day.
- Professional Environment: Benefit from a modern reception area and up-to-date communication technology designed to help you perform your role at the highest standard.
- Professional Growth: Access to training in Advanced Customer Service, Safeguarding (Level 2), and Conflict Resolution, with pathways toward Student Services Officer or Office Manager roles.
Candidate Profile
- Experience: Previous experience in a reception or customer-facing role is essential. Experience within a school or medical setting is highly advantageous but not required.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written English, with the ability to communicate clearly and calmly with people from all walks of life.
- Technical Proficiency: Competence in using Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook) and the ability to quickly learn school-specific management systems.
- Personal Attributes: A resilient and flexible nature, a smart professional appearance, and the ability to remain "unflappable" during the morning and afternoon rushes.
- Commitment to Safeguarding: A deep understanding of the importance of child protection and a commitment to maintaining a secure school environment.
