About the Role

Working closely with the School Business Manager and Senior Leadership Team, you will coordinate planned and reactive maintenance, manage contractors, monitor compliance with health and safety legislation, and support the delivery of site improvement projects. You will also ensure the school remains a safe, clean, and welcoming environment throughout the year.

This is a varied leadership role suited to an organised, practical individual with excellent problem-solving skills and experience managing a busy site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operation and maintenance of the school site

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations

  • Manage contractors, maintenance schedules, and improvement works

  • Oversee site security, access arrangements, and emergency procedures

  • Carry out routine inspections and maintain compliance documentation

  • Monitor the condition of buildings, grounds, and plant equipment

  • Support facilities planning, procurement, and budget management

  • Ensure the school environment remains safe, secure, and welcoming

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience in site, premises, estates, or facilities management

  • Strong understanding of building maintenance and health and safety legislation

  • Experience managing contractors and maintenance programmes

  • Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to prioritise workloads and work independently

Desirable

  • Experience working within a school or educational setting

  • IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent health and safety qualification

  • Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities within schools

  • Experience managing facilities budgets and refurbishment projects
