A friendly and inclusive primary school in Brentford, West London is looking for a compassionate Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join their SEN team. This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs, helping them to develop academically, socially, and emotionally.
The SEN TA will work with pupils with a wide range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs), speech and language difficulties, and learning difficulties. Support may take place on a one-to-one basis, in small intervention groups, or within the classroom alongside teachers. Key Responsibilities- Provide personalised academic and emotional support to pupils with SEN
- Assist teachers with implementing EHCPs, IEPs, and behaviour management strategies
- Collaborate with the SENCO, teaching staff, and support staff to meet pupil needs
- Support pupils’ social, emotional, and communication development
- Promote positive behaviour and engagement using school-approved strategies
- Adapt learning resources and activities to suit individual pupil needs
- Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and unstructured times
- Encourage independence, confidence, and self-esteem
- Observe and monitor pupil progress, providing feedback to staff
- Maintain safeguarding standards and prioritise pupil wellbeing
- Patient, empathetic, and calm under pressure
- Passionate about supporting children with additional needs
- Confident supporting pupils with complex or challenging behaviour
- Flexible and adaptable in a school environment
- Strong communicator and team player
- Reliable, proactive, and committed to helping pupils succeed
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN
- Understanding of common SEN conditions and support strategies
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
- Right to work in the UK
- SEN-related qualifications or training
- Experience in specialist provisions or SEN units
- Team Teach or behaviour management training
- Background in education, psychology, care, or youth work
