We are a well-established and inclusive primary school located in the heart of Camden, North London, seeking to appoint a committed and highly motivated Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join our dedicated support team. Role Overview
The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who have identified special educational needs, including but not limited to Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), speech and language needs, ADHD, social and emotional needs, and moderate learning difficulties. You may be required to provide one-to-one support or work with small groups, depending on individual education plans (EHCPs). You will work under the guidance of the class teacher and the school’s SENCo to deliver targeted interventions, promote independence, and support pupils both academically and emotionally throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored support to pupils with special educational needs within the classroom setting
- Support pupils during structured learning activities and less formal times such as playtime and lunch
- Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
- Encourage positive behaviour and support emotional regulation strategies
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, external professionals, and parents where appropriate
- Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and contribute to review meetings
- Support pupils in developing independence, confidence, and social skills
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a professional, patient, and empathetic individual who demonstrates a strong understanding of SEN support within a primary school setting. Experience working with children with additional needs is highly desirable, although training and support will be provided for the right candidate. You should:
- Have experience supporting children with SEN in a school or similar setting
- Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Be calm, resilient, and adaptable
- Show a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- Be able to work effectively as part of a team
- Hold a relevant qualification (desirable but not essential)
