About the Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to support pupils with a range of additional needs. You will help ensure pupils can access the curriculum while building confidence, independence, and positive learning behaviours.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing one-to-one and small group support for pupils with Special Educational Needs
- Assisting the class teacher with differentiated learning activities
- Supporting pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural development
- Implementing strategies from Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCPs
- Helping pupils remain engaged and focused during lessons
- Encouraging independence and confidence in learning
- Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teaching staff
- Supporting classroom organisation and preparation of learning resources
Experience and Skills
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience working with children with SEN in a school or similar setting
- Demonstrate patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills
- Be confident supporting pupils with needs such as autism, ADHD, or speech and language difficulties
- Be proactive, adaptable, and able to work effectively as part of a team
- Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- Relevant Teaching Assistant qualifications or experience in education, childcare, or youth support would be beneficial but are not essential.
