We require a technically skilled, safety-conscious Science Technician to support our practical science curriculum across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. The role involves managing laboratory preparation spaces, maintaining specialist apparatus, and ensuring a safe, fully compliant environment for hands-on scientific experimentation and inquiry.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
- Laboratory Preparation: Prepare, calibrate, and set up specialist equipment, chemical solutions, and biological materials required for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics practical lessons and exams.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Enforce strict COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations, manage chemical storage safely, maintain up-to-date risk assessments, and oversee the safe disposal of hazardous waste.
- In-Class Technical Support: Provide direct technical assistance to teaching staff and students during practical laboratory sessions, ensuring equipment is operated correctly and safely.
- Equipment Maintenance & Calibration: Perform routine maintenance, safety checks, and calibrations on laboratory hardware, including microscopes, data loggers, and fume cupboards, arranging for external repairs when required.
- Stock Control & Procurement: Monitor inventory levels of chemicals, glassware, and consumables, placing timely orders with suppliers to ensure the department remains fully resourced within budget frameworks.
