The Role
A progressive Secondary School in Southwark is seeking a professional, reliable, and highly organised Science Technician to join their busy science department. This hands-on technical role is vital for maintaining the daily functionality, physical safety, and resource readiness of a high-capacity urban science faculty, offering an excellent opportunity for a skilled practical technician looking for a stable role within a highly collaborative team in London.
The successful candidate will facilitate the day-to-day practical logistics of the school's science classrooms. Primary responsibilities include setting up daily lesson trays for biology, chemistry, and physics tracks, conducting routine statutory safety monitoring across gas and water services, calibrating electronic equipment (such as data loggers and microscopes), and keeping meticulous records of local chemical inventories. You will also assist teaching staff during live practical demonstrations, oversee the safe storage of radioactive tracking sources under the direction of the Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS), and update real-time equipment requests submitted via the schoolβs digital tracking platform.
You will support clear, professional communication with the Head of Science, teaching faculty, and visiting educational networks, requiring absolute reliability and safety focus at all times. Strong time-management skills are necessary to balance urgent teacher assistance requests with systematic compliance checks across multiple preparation rooms.

Requirements
Previous experience in laboratory caretaking, science technician workflows, or a relevant practical laboratory discipline
Strong hands-on competency in basic chemical compounding, micro-organism culture preparation, and equipment care
Clear understanding of basic health and safety protocols and safe chemical handling frameworks (COSHH)
Basic IT literacy, with the ability to navigate digital equipment booking systems and update tracking logs
Ability to work effectively and adaptably as part of a structured, fast-paced technical support team
