About the School

The school is a well-established, community-focused primary serving a diverse and vibrant local area. Inclusion and equality are central to the school’s ethos, and staff work collaboratively to ensure that every child feels safe, supported, and valued. The Early Years Foundation Stage is a strength of the school, offering a well-structured, play-based curriculum supported by experienced practitioners. Leadership is highly supportive, with a strong SENCo team and clear systems in place to support pupils with additional needs. The school works closely with parents and external professionals to ensure high-quality provision for children with SEN.

The Role

As an EYFS SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work with children in Nursery or Reception who require additional support to access learning. Pupils may present with needs such as autism spectrum condition (ASC), speech and language difficulties, global developmental delay, sensory processing needs, or social and emotional challenges. You will provide a mixture of 1:1 and small-group support, helping children to engage in learning activities, follow routines, and develop communication, independence, and confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted SEN support in line with EHCPs and individual learning plans
  • Support access to the EYFS curriculum through play-based and structured activities
  • Promote communication, interaction, and social development
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Use visual supports, routines, and sensory strategies where appropriate
  • Assist with personal care and toileting when required
  • Observe and record progress, sharing feedback with teachers and the SENCo
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and child protection

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience supporting children with SEN, ideally in EYFS or a primary school
  • Be patient, empathetic, and emotionally attuned to young children
  • Have a good understanding of early childhood development
  • Be flexible, reliable, and proactive
  • Communicate effectively with children and adults

Relevant qualifications in childcare, education, or SEN are desirable but not essential.

What the School Offers

  • A supportive and inclusive working environment
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Clear guidance and mentoring
  • Strong leadership and SEN support structures
  • A positive, child-centred school culture

This role is ideal for someone committed to making a real difference in children’s early educational experiences.
