About the Role
Wayman Education is seeking a practical, organized, and safety-conscious Design & Technology Technician to join a vibrant DT Department at a thriving secondary school in West Ealing, starting in September 2026. In this crucial operational role, you will support teaching staff across workshops and design studios, ensuring tools, machinery, and materials are prepared safely for practical lessons in Resistant Materials, Product Design, and Graphics across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
Key Responsibilities
- Workshop Preparation: Prepare materials (timber, metals, plastics), tools, and machinery for daily practical lessons and GCSE/A-Level project work.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Maintain strict Health & Safety standards across all workshops, machinery areas, and store rooms in line with DATA and COSHH guidelines.
- Machinery & Tool Maintenance: Perform regular safety checks, cleaning, sharpening, and routine maintenance on workshop machinery (e.g., band saws, pillar drills, lathes, sanding machines) and hand tools.
- CAD/CAM Support: Assist with setting up digital manufacturing tools, such as 3D printers and laser cutters, for student projects.
- Stock & Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels of raw materials and consumables, manage secure storage, and assist with ordering supplies within budget.
Candidate Requirements
- Background: Practical background in engineering, carpentry, product design, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience: Prior experience working as a DT Technician in a school or college setting, or equivalent industrial/workshop experience.
- Safety Standards: Working knowledge of workshop safety procedures, COSHH, and machinery regulations (DATA accreditation is highly desirable).
- Technical Skills: Comfortable operating workshop machinery, hand tools, and digital design technology (CAD/CAM software, laser cutters, 3D printers).
- Safeguarding: An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or willingness to process one).
