We are recruiting a Caretaker for a popular primary school in Wandsworth. The Caretaker will start January 2026, with a full induction and handover before January 2026 to ensure the Caretaker is fully briefed and ready to manage site responsibilities on day one.
The Wandsworth school is looking for a practical Caretaker who can combine routine maintenance with a strong focus on health & safety and a helpful approach to the school community.
Position details- Role: Caretaker — Wandsworth
- Start date: January 2026
- Contract: Permanent / Term-time or Full-time (school dependent)
The Caretaker will undertake daily opening/closing duties, perform preventative maintenance, respond promptly to maintenance requests and oversee contractor work. As Caretaker you will keep accurate records of checks, manage site inventory and ensure compliance with H&S checks in Wandsworth. You will also support events and lettings, prepare rooms and be a visible, approachable presence for staff, pupils and visitors.
Key responsibilities- Undertake daily site checks, building security and routine maintenance tasks.
- Carry out basic plumbing, decorating, joinery or electrical tasks and report major issues.
- Coordinate and supervise contractors, maintain logbooks and H&S paperwork in Wandsworth.
- Maintain grounds, clear entrances and ensure safe access during all seasons.
- Support school events, set up facilities for lettings and assist with emergency responses.
- Proven caretaking or facilities experience and a practical ‘can-do’ attitude.
- Good communication skills, ability to prioritise workload and strong time management in Wandsworth.
- Comfortable working alone and as part of a small site team; DBS and right to work in the UK required.
- Available to commence January 2026, with induction ahead of January 2026.
