A successful Secondary School in the London Borough of Southwark is seeking a dedicated and proactive Attendance Officer to join its experienced pastoral team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about improving student attendance and ensuring every young person has the opportunity to achieve their full potential through regular school attendance.

Working alongside the Attendance Lead, Heads of Year and Safeguarding Team, you will monitor attendance, identify concerns and work closely with families and external agencies to improve attendance across the school. You will play an important role in supporting the school's safeguarding procedures while maintaining accurate attendance records and ensuring compliance with statutory guidance.

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who enjoys building positive relationships with students and families while working within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Attendance Team

The Attendance Team works closely with students, families, staff and external agencies to promote excellent attendance and remove barriers to learning.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring daily attendance and punctuality.
  • Contacting parents regarding unexplained absences.
  • Maintaining accurate attendance records using the school's MIS.
  • Producing attendance reports for senior leaders.
  • Identifying patterns of persistent absence.
  • Meeting with parents and carers to discuss attendance concerns.
  • Supporting attendance intervention strategies.
  • Liaising with the Local Authority and external agencies.
  • Supporting safeguarding procedures.
  • Promoting attendance initiatives across the school.
  • Maintaining confidential student records.
  • Preparing attendance data for leadership meetings.
  • Supporting Heads of Year with attendance action plans.
  • Assisting with admissions administration where required.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory attendance guidance.

Requirements

  • Previous attendance or school administration experience.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Experience using school MIS systems is desirable.
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Professional and empathetic approach.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Commitment to safeguarding.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and families.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
