The Opportunity
Wayman Education is seeking a dedicated and resilient Attendance Officer for an immediate start at a high-achieving secondary school in Hammersmith. This is a critical role within the school’s pastoral team, focused on ensuring every student has the best possible opportunity to succeed by maintaining high levels of school attendance.
The Role
You will be the primary point of contact for all matters regarding student attendance and punctuality. This role requires a unique blend of administrative precision and empathetic communication, as you will work closely with families, teachers, and external agencies to overcome barriers to school engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitoring & Reporting: Track daily attendance using the school’s Management Information System (MIS) and identify patterns of persistent absence.
- First-Day Response: Contact parents and carers via telephone or text when a student is absent without notification.
- Intervention: Meet with students and parents to discuss attendance concerns, creating action plans to improve engagement.
- Home Visits: When necessary, conduct home visits to support families and verify the wellbeing of students who are not in school.
- Compliance: Prepare documentation for the Local Authority regarding legal interventions and attend attendance panel meetings.

- A strong understanding of the legal requirements and statutory guidance surrounding school attendance.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage a busy workload and meet strict reporting deadlines.
- An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one immediately).
