CORE PURPOSE
We require a creative, safety-conscious Food Technology Teacher to deliver practical and theoretical Design & Technology (Food & Nutrition) lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. The role involves developing pupils' culinary techniques, teaching nutrition and food science, managing kitchen hygiene standards, and fully preparing exam cohorts for GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition examinations.
THE SCHOOL
An 11–18 faith secondary academy located in Liverpool, Merseyside. Guided by a strong ethos of community, stewardship, and pastoral care, the school provides a welcoming environment supported by a structured, school-wide behaviour policy. The Design & Technology department features modern, fully equipped food preparation rooms with dedicated technician support to ensure practical ingredients, equipment, and health and safety compliance are managed effectively, keeping teacher workloads sustainable.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Practical & Theory Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality practical cookery sessions and food science theory lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
Culinary Skills & Nutrition: Teach core knife skills, cooking methods, food safety/hygiene practices, and nutritional analysis to build pupil independence and culinary confidence.
GCSE Preparation & NEA Supervision: Prepare Year 11 classes for GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition examinations, including supervising and assessing non-exam assessment (NEA) practical tasks and written portfolios.
Kitchen Health & Safety: Maintain strict hygiene, food storage, and health and safety standards across all food teaching spaces in line with environmental health guidelines.
Form Tutor Duties: Take responsibility for a tutor group, managing daily registration, faith-based reflections, and parent contact.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Food Technology, Food and Nutrition, Home Economics, or a related discipline. Basic Food Hygiene Certification is essential.
Experience: Open to both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers (ECTs) with a track record of delivering successful practical lessons.
Skills: Strong practical culinary skills, excellent classroom control during high-risk practical sessions, and clear communication.
