CORE PURPOSE

We are seeking a dynamic, passionate Food Technology Teacher to deliver high-quality practical and theoretical lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (with potential Key Stage 5 Hospitality & Catering opportunities). Working closely with the Head of Design & Technology, the successful candidate will inspire pupils in culinary arts, nutrition, food science, and safety, equipping them with essential life skills and preparing them for GCSE and vocational qualifications.

Set on an expansive campus featuring modern, fully equipped culinary suites, commercial-grade teaching kitchens, and interactive food science laboratories, this energetic secondary academy serves over 1,000 pupils across Liverpool. The school combines high academic standards with a strong emphasis on practical, career-focused learning. The Design & Technology department functions as a vibrant, well-resourced hub where pupils engage with modern food processing techniques, nutritional analysis, and professional catering standards.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS

  • Curriculum Planning & Delivery: Plan and teach engaging practical cooking, food science, and nutrition lessons aligned with GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition and KS3 D&T frameworks.

  • Examination Preparation: Guide Key Stage 4 students through practical culinary assessments, written examination preparation, and non-exam assessment (NEA) investigation portfolios.

  • Kitchen Health & Safety Compliance: Maintain rigorous food hygiene standards, COSHH regulations, allergy management systems, and practical kitchen safety protocols.

  • Resource & Inventory Oversight: Manage ingredient ordering, store maintenance, specialized culinary equipment upkeep, and practical lesson budget allocations.

  • Extracurricular & Culinary Enrichment: Lead after-school cooking clubs, facilitate masterclasses with industry guest chefs, and coordinate student entries into regional culinary competitions.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS with a degree in Food Technology, Home Economics, Hospitality & Catering, or a related discipline. Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced educators are equally welcome.

  • Experience: Proven track record of teaching Food Technology or Hospitality & Catering within a UK secondary school environment.

  • Skills: Strong practical culinary mastery, deep knowledge of food science and nutritional guidelines, excellent classroom management, and a focus on maintaining high safety standards in workshop environments.
