We are seeking an articulate, passionate, and analytical English Teacher to deliver outstanding English Language and English Literature instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (with potential Key Stage 5 A-Level Literature or Language delivery depending on candidate expertise). Working within a vibrant English department, the successful candidate will foster a love of reading, cultivate critical textual analysis, and develop pupils' written and spoken communication skills to achieve high academic progress at GCSE and beyond.

This energetic secondary academy supports over 1,100 pupils aged 11–18 in Liverpool. The English faculty is a creative, collaborative team that runs active debate societies, creative writing clubs, and annual theatre visits across the region.

Key Tasks & Daily Operations

  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and teach engaging, structured English Language and English Literature lessons across KS3 and KS4 (AQA/Edexcel specifications), studying diverse prose, poetry, drama, non-fiction texts, and unseen extracts.
  • Textual Analysis & Literacy Development: Teach high-level analytical essay structure, technical vocabulary, contextual evaluation, and creative writing techniques while supporting whole-school literacy and reading initiatives.
  • Assessment & Targeted Progress: Conduct regular diagnostic assessments, evaluate mock examinations, and provide constructive feedback to address attainment gaps and prepare pupils for terminal GCSE examinations.
  • Post-16 Delivery (Optional): Contribute to A-Level English Literature, English Language, or Combined English A-Level courses where applicable, guiding students through complex critical frameworks and independent study modules.
  • Pastoral Responsibilities: Serve as a Form Tutor, monitoring pupil academic progress, personal welfare, and character development within the academy's pastoral system.

Profile Requirements

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS with a degree in English Literature, English Language, Linguistics, or a closely related discipline. Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced secondary practitioners are equally encouraged to apply.
  • Experience: Proven experience teaching English Language and English Literature across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 within a UK mainstream secondary school or academy setting.
  • Skills: Excellent subject knowledge across classic and contemporary literary texts, strong classroom management, clear explanation of complex language features, and the ability to inspire creative writing and analytical thought in young people.
