Role Overview
A dedicated secondary school in Liverpool is seeking an assertive, empathetic, and organized Attendance Officer to join their pastoral and administrative team ASAP. In this key role, you will lead the day-to-day monitoring and management of student attendance and punctuality across the school. Working closely with Heads of Year, Safeguarding Leads, and external agencies, you will implement proactive strategies to raise attendance levels, reduce persistent absence, and build strong partnerships with families to ensure every pupil attends school regularly and achieves their full potential.
Key Responsibilities

Manage daily registration records, perform first-day absence calling, and log attendance data using school management software (e.g., SIMS, Arbor).

Identify attendance trends, track persistent absence, and coordinate targeted early interventions for at-risk pupils.

Conduct home visits, arrange formal attendance meetings with parents and carers, and implement attendance contract plans.

Liaise with pastoral teams, the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), and local authority educational welfare officers (EWOs) on legal compliance, court proceedings, and penalty notices.

Generate weekly and termly attendance reports for the Senior Leadership Team and Governing Body.
Key Requirements

Previous experience in an attendance, pastoral, or administrative role within a school, educational setting, or local authority.

High proficiency in educational management software (SIMS, Arbor, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy, firmness, and discretion.

Good knowledge of statutory attendance guidelines, safeguarding procedures, and local authority reporting protocols.

Valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle for conducting home visits (preferred).

Legal right to work in the UK.
