A creative secondary academy in Leeds is seeking an inspiring Drama & Performing Arts Teacher to join its Expressive Arts faculty for an immediate (ASAP) start.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a practitioner passionate about theatrical performance, stagecraft, and building confidence in young people.

Job Overview

Drama plays a prominent role in this school’s academic and co-curricular identity. The successful applicant will deliver practical and theoretical Drama lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE Drama / Vocational Performing Arts), with potential Key Stage 5 A-Level Drama and Theatre Studies delivery.

Working closely with the Expressive Arts department, you will guide pupils through devizing, script analysis, theatrical design, and live theatre evaluation, while directing annual whole-school theatrical productions. This is a full-time, ongoing or permanent role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach engaging practical and theoretical Drama lessons across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5

  • Direct and produce annual school plays, musical theatre productions, and showcase evenings

  • Guide GCSE and A-Level pupils through devized practical performances and written exam preparation

  • Maintain drama studio spaces, lighting rigs, sound equipment, and costume inventories safely

  • Assess, track, and report on student progress across practical performance and written coursework

  • Fulfill pastoral duties as a Form Tutor, supporting student wellbeing and personal development

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognized UK teaching credentials (PGCE / SCITT)

  • Honors degree in Drama, Theatre Studies, Performing Arts, or a closely related discipline

  • Proven track record (or clear potential during training) for delivering strong GCSE/A-Level Drama outcomes

  • Experience directing extra-curricular theatrical productions and managing stage technical equipment

  • An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
