This technical role is ideal for a laboratory specialist, chemistry graduate, or experienced school technician looking to manage high-spec preparation environments, chemical inventories, and technical support frameworks within a modern, data-driven academic department.

The successful candidate will take full accountability for providing technical assistance across physics, chemistry, and biology disciplines up to Key Stage 5 (GCSE and A-Level exam cohorts). Key responsibilities include assembling complex laboratory apparatus arrays, calculating and preparing precise chemical molar solutions, maintaining laboratory asset registers, and managing the prompt distribution and clean-up of lesson equipment. You will also take operational ownership of the department’s digital safety logs, ensuring that all storage zones, hazard inventories, and waste disposal tracks strictly adhere to statutory safety regulations (CLEAPSS frameworks and COSHH compliance protocols).

You will work closely with the Lead Technician and teaching faculty to ensure practical lessons run with absolute efficiency and technical accuracy. Crisp organizational skills, deep attention to technical detail, and a collaborative approach are essential to balancing fast-paced practical rotations with rigorous equipment maintenance and chemical auditing schedules.

Requirements

  • Proven practical experience working as a technician within a school laboratory, university environment, or industrial science setting

  • Good IT and data management capabilities, with confidence utilizing digital inventory systems and spreadsheet registers

  • Practical competency across a wide array of technical scientific equipment maintenance and solution preparation workflows

  • A degree or relevant professional qualification in a scientific discipline is highly advantageous
