A successful Secondary School in Leeds is seeking a dedicated and proactive Attendance Officer to join its pastoral team. This is an excellent opportunity for an organised individual who is passionate about improving student attendance and supporting young people to achieve their full potential.

Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Year, Safeguarding Team and parents, you will play a key role in monitoring attendance, identifying trends and implementing strategies that improve attendance across the school. You will become an integral member of the pastoral team, helping to remove barriers to learning while ensuring statutory attendance procedures are followed.

This is an 11 to 18 well-established Secondary School with a strong commitment to high standards, student wellbeing and continuous improvement. The Attendance Team works closely with pastoral leaders, safeguarding staff and external agencies to ensure every student has the best possible opportunity to succeed through excellent attendance. The team adopts a supportive and proactive approach, working with families to overcome barriers while promoting a positive culture of attendance across the school.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring daily attendance and punctuality.
  • Contacting parents regarding unexplained absences.
  • Maintaining accurate attendance records using the school's MIS.
  • Producing attendance reports for Senior Leadership.
  • Identifying patterns of persistent absence.
  • Meeting with parents to discuss attendance concerns.
  • Supporting attendance intervention plans.
  • Liaising with external agencies where appropriate.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory attendance guidance.
  • Supporting safeguarding procedures.
  • Preparing attendance data for governors.
  • Promoting whole-school attendance initiatives.
  • Maintaining confidential pupil records.
  • Assisting with admissions administration where required.
  • Supporting the wider pastoral team.

Requirements

  • Previous attendance or school administration experience.
  • Experience using school MIS systems is desirable.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to manage confidential information.
  • Professional and approachable manner.
  • Commitment to safeguarding.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a busy school environment.
