This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting young children during the most formative stage of their education and who wants to make a positive difference in their development and learning. Our school serves a diverse community and is proud of its inclusive ethos, high standards, and focus on nurturing the whole child. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and inspired, and our Early Years provision is designed to provide a stimulating, supportive, and play-based learning environment. We are therefore seeking an EYFS Teaching Assistant who shares our vision and is committed to fostering children’s curiosity, independence, and love of learning.

Role Overview

The EYFS Teaching Assistant will work closely with class teachers and the Early Years team to support children in Nursery and Reception. You will assist in delivering a curriculum that is developmentally appropriate, engaging, and aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. You will help create a safe and nurturing learning environment where children can explore, experiment, and develop across all areas of learning, including communication and language, literacy, numeracy, personal, social, and emotional development, and physical skills. You will also support children’s transition between activities, daily routines, and interactions with their peers, ensuring they feel confident, secure, and motivated to learn. This role is ideal for an individual who is patient, observant, and empathetic, and who understands the importance of play-based learning in building foundational skills for lifelong education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the class teacher in planning and delivering lessons and activities aligned with the EYFS framework
  • Working with individual children and small groups to support their learning and development
  • Supporting children’s communication and language development, including listening, speaking, and early literacy skills
  • Encouraging the development of personal, social, and emotional skills such as confidence, independence, cooperation, and resilience
  • Facilitating learning through structured activities and child-initiated play, both indoors and outdoors
  • Supporting physical development, including fine and gross motor skills
  • Observing, recording, and reporting on children’s progress and achievements to the class teacher
  • Helping maintain a safe, organised, and stimulating learning environment
  • Supporting children during daily routines, including arrivals, transitions, snack times, and toileting
  • Assisting children with additional needs under the guidance of the class teacher or SENCo
  • Collaborating effectively with teachers, Early Years practitioners, and other staff members
  • Maintaining professional conduct and contributing positively to the ethos of the school

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an EYFS Teaching Assistant who is caring, patient, and committed to supporting the learning and development of young children. You should have a genuine interest in early childhood education and the ability to build positive relationships with children, colleagues, and families. The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Experience working with children in an EYFS or similar early years setting
  • A good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and child development principles
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive approach to supporting children and colleagues
  • A calm, positive, and nurturing attitude
  • A clear commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

A relevant qualification in early years or childcare (Level 2 or Level 3) is desirable, although candidates with strong experience and a willingness to learn and develop professionally are encouraged to apply.
