The successful candidate will bring creativity and enthusiasm to the DT curriculum, encouraging students to develop technical skills, problem-solving ability, and a passion for design.

Alongside classroom teaching, the role offers the chance to contribute to the school’s strong tradition of extracurricular activities, from design competitions and engineering clubs to exhibitions and community projects.

About the School: Founded in 1887, the school is a prestigious independent day and boarding institution educating over 1,200 pupils aged 3 months to 18 years. It combines a rich heritage with modern teaching practices and state-of-the-art facilities, creating an environment where students thrive academically, socially, and personally. Located in one of Buckinghamshire’s most attractive areas, the school attracts pupils from across the UK and overseas, with over 40 nationalities represented in its diverse community. The Design & Technology department is a particular strength of the school. It is housed in a dedicated suite of modern workshops and studios, equipped with CAD/CAM suites, 3D printers, laser cutters, and fully resourced food technology kitchens. With a strong uptake at both GCSE and A-Level, the department consistently achieves outstanding results and offers a dynamic programme of extracurricular opportunities, including STEM clubs, national competitions, and partnerships with local universities and businesses.

About the Role: This is a full-time position starting in January. You will be teaching Design & Technology across Key Stages 3–5, with the opportunity to specialise in areas such as Product Design, Resistant Materials, Graphics, or Food Technology depending on your expertise. The successful candidate will inspire students of all abilities, preparing them for academic success and instilling skills for future careers in engineering, design, and related fields. The school places a strong emphasis on professional growth, offering excellent CPD opportunities and encouraging staff to contribute to the wider life of the school, including boarding, enrichment, and community outreach programmes.

Requirements: Applications are welcome from teachers at any stage of their career, including Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and more experienced practitioners. Both UK-trained DT teachers and overseas-qualified teachers will be considered. Applicants should have:

  • A commitment to fostering creativity, innovation, and practical skills in students
  • A willingness to contribute to extracurricular activities and the wider school community

Salary: The salary for this position will be based on the school’s own competitive independent pay scale, which is above the maintained sector (MPS/UPS equivalent). For the right candidate, there may also be opportunities for responsibility allowances (TLRs). Accommodation may be available for staff who wish to take advantage of boarding responsibilities.
