The Role
As a Year 2 Class Teacher, you will play a crucial role in supporting pupils as they consolidate their Key Stage 1 learning and prepare for the transition into Key Stage 2. You will deliver a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum that develops strong foundations in reading, writing, and mathematics, while also promoting creativity, independence, and resilience. You will plan and deliver high-quality lessons that meet the needs of all learners, using assessment effectively to inform planning and ensure progress for every child. You will create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where children feel confident to take risks, ask questions, and celebrate their achievements. The role requires a teacher who understands the importance of early learning and development, including phonics, early reading, and numeracy, while also nurturing social, emotional, and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and effective lessons in line with the National Curriculum
- Create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment with high expectations for all pupils
- Use ongoing assessment to monitor progress and inform teaching
- Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND and higher-attaining learners
- Support pupils’ transition from Year 1 to Year 2 and prepare them for Key Stage 2
- Promote positive behaviour and uphold the school’s values consistently
- Work closely with teaching assistants and support staff to maximise pupil outcomes
- Communicate effectively with parents and carers, building strong, positive relationships
- Contribute to staff meetings, training, and whole-school initiatives
- Actively support safeguarding and promote pupil wellbeing at all times
About You
We are looking for a teacher who is enthusiastic, nurturing, and committed to delivering high-quality teaching and learning. You will be patient, adaptable, and passionate about supporting young learners during this important stage of their development. The successful candidate will ideally:
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Have experience teaching in Key Stage 1 (Year 2 experience desirable but not essential)
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of early literacy, phonics, and numeracy
- Be creative and enthusiastic, with a child-centred approach to teaching
- Have high expectations for pupil achievement, behaviour, and wellbeing
- Be an effective communicator and collaborative team member
- Show a commitment to inclusion, equality, and safeguarding
