Head of Food Technology Role in a Co-Educational Secondary School

A well-regarded Co-Educational Secondary School in Warwickshire is seeking to appoint an experienced and ambitious Head of Food Technology to lead its successful Design & Technology faculty from September. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented practitioner or existing middle leader to take responsibility for Food Technology within a supportive and forward-thinking school environment.

Food Technology plays an important role within the wider curriculum, helping students develop practical culinary skills, creativity, independence, and a strong understanding of nutrition, health, and food science.

About the Role

As Head of Food Technology, you will lead the delivery of Food Technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and student achievement throughout the department.

You will be responsible for curriculum planning, quality assurance, staff support, and the continued development of an engaging and ambitious Food curriculum. Students study a broad programme that includes nutrition, food preparation, health and safety, food provenance, product development, and practical cooking skills.

The successful candidate will combine strong subject expertise with effective leadership skills, helping to drive progress, raise attainment, and promote Food Technology as a vibrant and successful subject within the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Food Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver high-quality Food lessons and model excellent classroom practice

  • Oversee curriculum planning, assessment, and departmental development

  • Support staff within the department through coaching and collaboration

  • Monitor student progress and implement strategies to raise attainment

  • Ensure safe and effective use of specialist kitchens and resources

  • Promote enrichment opportunities such as cooking clubs, competitions, and healthy living initiatives

  • Contribute to whole-school curriculum development and quality assurance

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching Food Technology at secondary level

  • Strong subject knowledge in Food, Nutrition, and related areas

  • Experience teaching KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Leadership potential or previous middle leadership experience

  • Excellent classroom management, organisational, and communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching KS5 Food or related courses

  • Previous experience leading a subject area or curriculum strand

  • Ability to contribute to wider Design & Technology provision

  • Strong track record of improving student outcomes and curriculum development
