We are seeking an inspirational, strategically-minded Head of Economics to lead the successful department within a high-achieving secondary school/academy in the London Borough of Sutton. This is a Full-Time, Permanent Position starting in January 2026 (or sooner).

The successful applicant will be an exceptional Economics specialist with the proven ability to lead an entire subject department, manage staff, and drive strategic vision. This is a senior middle leadership post that will involve ensuring outstanding results, often with students progressing to top universities for related degrees. The post will be compensated with a senior Teaching and Learning Responsibility (TLR 1b) or potentially an L-Scale point, reflecting the significant responsibility for the curriculum, budget, performance, and day-to-day management of the Economics provision. You will manage resources and ensure consistency and excellence in teaching quality across the department.

This is an academically rigorous and well-regarded school in Sutton, renowned for its strong sixth-form provision and excellent track record in facilitating Russell Group and Oxbridge applications in Economics and Finance. We Are Looking For:

  • A qualified teacher with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).

  • Significant leadership experience (e.g., Second in Department, Subject Coordinator, or existing Head of Department).
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to inspire high academic achievement and competitive university applications.
  • The strategic vision to develop and enrich the curriculum, including coordinating visits, speakers, and competitions.

Salary and Benefits

Main Pay Scale/Upper Pay Scale (MPS/UPS) for Outer London Teachers (currently £37,870 - £56,154 for 2025/2026). Senior TLR Payment: A TLR 1b is typical for this role, ranging from £12,943 to £17,216 (for 2025/2026). Alternatively, the role may be placed on the Leadership Pay Spine (L-Scale) depending on the school's structure.
