Our Hatfield-based primary school is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled EYFS Teaching Assistant to join our early years team, providing vital support to children aged 3โ€“5 years, including those with special educational needs (SEN). Role Summary

We are looking for a compassionate and adaptable Teaching Assistant to support our EYFS provision, including children with SEN or those transitioning into ARP settings. You will provide hands-on, personalised support, helping children engage in classroom activities, develop essential skills, and grow socially and emotionally. This role is ideal for candidates who are patient, proactive, and committed to early years education. You will work closely with the EYFS lead, SENCo, and classroom teachers, helping to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs), deliver small group interventions, and foster positive behaviour and routines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils in EYFS and Reception classes, including those with SEN or additional support needs.
  • Implement strategies outlined in IEPs and behaviour support plans to achieve learning and developmental goals.
  • Facilitate play-based learning activities, promoting cognitive, social, and emotional development.
  • Deliver small group or one-to-one interventions in literacy, numeracy, communication, and motor skills.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and self-regulation, using restorative practices and consistent routines.
  • Observe and document pupil progress, reporting observations to the EYFS lead and SENCo.
  • Support transitions for children moving between mainstream and ARP provision.
  • Assist with classroom organisation, resource preparation, and maintaining a safe and stimulating environment.
  • Collaborate with parents, therapists, and external agencies to support individualised learning plans.
  • Supervise children during playtime, lunchtime, and indoor/outdoor activities, ensuring safety and engagement.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience supporting young children, including those with SEN or developmental delays.
  • Hold relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 TA, NCFE Support Work in Schools, CACHE, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, and creativity in early years settings.
  • Be confident in observing, recording, and assessing child development.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with children, staff, and parents.
  • Have a strong understanding of safeguarding procedures, child protection, and health and safety requirements.
  • Be adaptable and able to respond positively to dynamic classroom needs.
