A creative and ambitious secondary school in Guildford is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and organised Art Technician to support its thriving Art department. Working closely with the Head of Art and teaching staff, you will play a key role in preparing resources, maintaining specialist equipment and ensuring studios remain organised, safe and ready for practical learning. The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting creativity and will take pride in helping students develop their artistic skills across a wide range of disciplines.

This is a varied position that would suit someone with experience in an educational setting, a creative industry or someone with strong practical skills and an interest in visual arts.

Art Department

The Art department is a vibrant and inspiring creative space where students are encouraged to experiment with a wide range of artistic media while developing technical skills and creative confidence. The department delivers an engaging curriculum across drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics and mixed media, preparing students for GCSE and A-Level success.

As Art Technician, you will provide practical support that enables lessons to run smoothly while maintaining an organised, safe and stimulating learning environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing materials, equipment and resources for practical Art lessons.

  • Maintaining specialist classrooms, studios and preparation areas.

  • Organising stock and ordering art materials when required.

  • Preparing clay, paints, printing equipment and specialist resources.

  • Supporting teachers during practical activities where appropriate.

  • Mounting and displaying student artwork throughout the school.

  • Maintaining kilns, printing presses and other specialist equipment.

  • Monitoring health and safety procedures within the department.

  • Managing departmental inventory and equipment records.

  • Assisting with GCSE and A-Level coursework exhibitions.

  • Supporting extracurricular Art clubs and whole-school creative events.

  • Helping create an inspiring learning environment that celebrates student achievement.

The successful candidate will become an important member of a collaborative department that values creativity, organisation and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Previous experience within an Art department or creative environment is desirable.

  • Knowledge of a variety of artistic materials and techniques.

  • Excellent organisational skills.

  • Good practical ability.
