Location: Waltham Forest

Ofsted Rating: Outstanding

School Type: Secondary School & Sixth Form (Co-educational)

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent or Fixed-Term

Start Date: January Start

An Ofsted-rated 'Outstanding' secondary school and Sixth Form in the vibrant Outer London Borough of Waltham Forest is seeking an articulate, culturally passionate, and dynamic Teacher of German to join their high-performing Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) faculty starting in January. This is a prime opportunity for a language specialist, whether an experienced practitioner or an ambitious Early Career Teacher (ECT), to foster linguistic mastery, intercultural curiosity, and global communication skills across a motivated student body.

About the Role

As a Teacher of German, you will bring the language, culture, and contemporary literature of German-speaking countries to life in the classroom. Joining the department for the spring term, you will deliver engaging, high-rigor lessons across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE German), and Key Stage 5 (A-Level German), developing students' fluency across all four core skill disciplines: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

  • Start Date: January
  • Environment: A flagship East London secondary school celebrated for high academic progress, strong language uptake, and a rich international outlook
  • Culture: A collegiate, highly supportive MFL department equipped with modern language lab technology, native-speaking language assistants, and shared interactive resources

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver immersive, communicative German language lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 that build grammatical precision, extensive vocabulary, and conversational spontaneity.
  • Prepare GCSE and A-Level candidates thoroughly for national examinations using data-driven progress tracking, oral exam coaching, and constructive diagnostic feedback.
  • Integrate authentic German-language media, literature, film, and cultural contexts into the curriculum to deepen students' global awareness and linguistic confidence.
  • Monitor and evaluate pupil progress, applying targeted intervention strategies to stretch high-aspiring linguists while scaffolding grammar and phonics for developing learners.
  • Contribute positively to departmental enrichment, including European exchange programs, German film clubs, language competitions, and cross-cultural school initiatives.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching credential.
  • A strong academic degree in German, Modern Languages, or a closely related discipline (near-native or native fluency in German is essential).
  • Proven track record or demonstrated capability of delivering outstanding German teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (KS5/A-Level experience is highly desirable).
  • Thorough knowledge of national German examination board specifications (e.g., AQA, Edexcel) and oral examination frameworks.
  • Excellent classroom presence, creative communicative teaching methods, and an infectious enthusiasm for modern languages and cultural exchange.

Salary & Benefits

  • Pay Scale: Outer London Main / Upper Pay Scale (MPS/UPS Outer London, commensurate with experience), with potential TLR opportunities for MFL key stage coordination or dual-language initiatives.
  • Teachers Pension Scheme (TPS), comprehensive continuous professional development (CPD), structured onboarding for a smooth January transition, and staff health and wellbeing initiatives.
