Food Technology Teacher Role in a University Technical College (UTC)
An innovative University Technical College (UTC) in Dudley is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and skilled Food Technology Teacher to join its successful Design & Technology department from September. About the Role
The successful candidate will teach Food Technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging practical and theoretical lessons that develop students' culinary skills, nutritional understanding, and knowledge of food science.
Students study a broad curriculum covering food preparation, nutrition, food safety, product development, sustainability, food provenance, and consumer awareness. You will prepare students for GCSE and Level 3 Food Preparation and Nutrition qualifications while encouraging creativity, independence, and technical excellence.
You will also contribute to the wider life of the department through cooking competitions, employer engagement activities, industry workshops, enrichment programmes, and practical projects that connect classroom learning with real-world applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach Food Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5
- Deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons
- Prepare students for GCSE and Level 3 Food Preparation and Nutrition qualifications
- Develop students' practical, technical, and analytical skills
- Ensure safe use of specialist equipment and maintain high food hygiene standards
- Assess progress and provide high-quality, constructive feedback
- Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
- Support enrichment activities and employer engagement opportunities

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience teaching Food Technology or Food Preparation and Nutrition at secondary level
- Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently
- Strong subject knowledge in nutrition, food science, and practical food preparation
- Excellent classroom and practical workshop management skills
Desirable
- Experience teaching Level 3 Food qualifications
- Knowledge of vocational or technical education pathways
- Experience delivering employer-led or project-based learning
- A proven track record of delivering excellent student outcomes
