Occupational Requirement: This role carries a genuine occupational requirement (GOR) under the Equality Act 2010 for the postholder to be female, due to the personal care duties involved.

About the Role

As a Specialist TA, you will bridge the gap between healthcare and education, enabling female pupils with physical disabilities, medical conditions, or complex physical health needs to safely access the school curriculum and thrive in a mainstream environment. Working closely with the SENCO, school nurse, external clinical teams, and teaching staff, you will combine expert medical vigilance with warm, encouraging learning support.

  • Start Date: Immediate or upcoming term

  • Environment: A flagship inner-London secondary school celebrated for its inclusive ethos, outstanding pastoral care, and state-of-the-art accessibility facilities

  • Culture: A highly supportive, multi-disciplinary team environment backed by experienced SEN professionals, school healthcare staff, and an approachable leadership team

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day medical monitoring, clinical intervention, and personal care support for designated female students, maintaining high standards of dignity, privacy, and hygiene.

  • Assist in the safe execution of individual healthcare plans (IHCPs), medical routines (e.g., medication administration, mobility assistance, tube feeding, or health tracking as certified), and emergency protocols in liaison with clinical professionals.

  • Deliver tailored 1:1 and small-group academic support inside the classroom, adapting learning materials under teacher guidance to match students' EHCP targets.

  • Facilitate smooth mobility and physical access across the school building during lessons, assemblies, lunchtimes, and educational visits.

  • Maintain meticulous, confidential records of health interventions, care delivery, and daily progress, ensuring seamless communication with parents, SENCOs, and local health authorities.

Requirements

  • Proven background or qualifications in Nursing (e.g., Paediatric Nurse, General Nurse, Healthcare Assistant / HCA), Clinical Care, or Specialist Medical Support.

  • Gender requirement: Female (due to intimate personal care responsibilities).

  • Prior experience supporting children, young people, or young adults with physical disabilities, complex medical conditions, or Special Educational Needs (SEN) is highly desirable.

  • Up-to-date certification or working knowledge in first aid, manual handling, and medical procedures (or willingness to undergo specialized school-funded training).

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, emotional resilience, patient communication, and an unwavering commitment to safeguarding, dignity, and pupil independence.

Salary & Benefits

  • Pay Scale: Inner London specialist support staff pay scale (commensurate with clinical qualifications and experience).

  • Comprehensive continuous professional development (CPD), specialized medical/SEN re-accreditation, local government pension scheme, and a term-time-only schedule.
