Staff work closely with families to ensure that each child’s learning journey is celebrated and supported. The setting is fully equipped with stimulating indoor and outdoor environments, encouraging exploration, imaginative play, and the development of social, emotional, and cognitive skills.

The Role

The EYFS Teaching Assistant will play a key role in supporting both the lead teacher and the children in the classroom. You will work with small groups and individuals to enhance learning outcomes, encourage engagement, and provide emotional and practical support. The ideal candidate will have experience in early years education, child development, and delivering engaging learning activities. You will support children across all areas of the EYFS curriculum, including literacy, numeracy, communication, physical development, and creative expression. In addition to supporting learning, the role involves promoting positive behaviour, maintaining a safe and stimulating environment, and supporting children’s social and emotional wellbeing. You will also liaise with parents, staff, and external professionals to ensure continuity of care and learning.

  • Work alongside the lead teacher to plan, prepare, and deliver activities in line with the EYFS curriculum.
  • Support children with special educational needs (SEN), additional learning needs, or English as an additional language, ensuring inclusion and accessibility.
  • Assist with assessment, observation, and record-keeping, contributing to children’s learning profiles and progress reports.
  • Implement strategies to promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social skills in line with school policies.
  • Support children during mealtimes, transitions, and outdoor learning, ensuring safety and wellbeing.
  • Encourage independence, curiosity, and problem-solving skills through guided and child-led activities.
  • Help maintain classroom resources, displays, and learning areas to provide a stimulating and organised environment.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to plan interventions, enrichment activities, and special events.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers, providing updates on children’s development and progress.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to stay up to date with EYFS best practices.

Person Specification

  • Have experience supporting children in an EYFS or early years setting, ideally including children with SEN or additional needs.
  • Demonstrate patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for working with young children.
  • Be knowledgeable about the EYFS curriculum and child development principles.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Be confident in supporting children’s emotional, social, and cognitive development.
  • Have a proactive approach to planning, problem-solving, and adapting activities to individual needs.
  • Be committed to safeguarding, child protection, and promoting inclusion for all children.
  • Hold relevant qualifications such as Level 2/3 Early Years Practitioner, Teaching Assistant, or equivalent experience.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team-focused learning environment.

We are committed to supporting staff growth and career progression in early years education. Benefits include:

  • Access to specialist EYFS training, safeguarding courses, and SEN awareness programs.
  • Mentoring and support from experienced EYFS teachers and senior staff.
  • Opportunities to participate in school-wide initiatives, enrichment programs, and leadership development pathways.
  • Collaborative and supportive team environment that values innovation, wellbeing, and professional growth.
  • Potential to progress within the early years or SEN/ARP pathway, including senior teaching assistant or pastoral roles.
  • Hands-on experience in delivering high-quality EYFS provision in a diverse and inclusive setting.
