A secondary school in Exeter is looking to appoint a motivated and creative English Teacher to strengthen its English Department. The school is seeking someone who can bring literature to life, develop students' communication skills and help pupils build the confidence needed to achieve their academic goals.

You will teach a broad English curriculum, supporting students as they develop their reading comprehension, written expression, vocabulary and analytical abilities.

Across KS3, you will introduce students to a range of literary texts and develop their understanding of language, structure, character and theme. At GCSE, you will prepare pupils for English Language and Literature assessments, helping them analyse texts closely, construct convincing arguments and produce well-organised written responses.

Your lessons should provide a balance of teacher explanation, guided practice, independent work and discussion. You will identify areas where students need additional support, adapt your teaching to different abilities and use assessment to measure progress.

The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in English and be able to create a classroom environment where students feel confident expressing ideas, interpreting texts and improving their writing.
